In the early twentieth Century a term called 'expression' where new artists wanted to express themselves more. This impact of the modern condition was being felt throught Europe and soon after became internationalised. Paris was the main place to be when it came to modern art. The three main elements of modern are modernization, modernity and modernism. Modernisation was the scientific and techological advances on machinery. Modernity refers to the social and cultural changes and Modernism is the cultural response to the changes. However, modernisation was a profound pessimism where the machines such as German socialologist Max Webber saw modernity as the 'iron cage' was being used instead of people.
