War time Poster by Savile Lumley, 1915.

It is a little bit more obvous what this poster is trying to say, basically it is an advertisement to get young people to join the army. It reminds me of that classic war poster you see everywhere which says 'We Want YOU' with a man pointing directly at the audience, The reason for this is that the man sat in his chair is looking directly at us and also there is enthasis on the 'you'. The dad which is staring kind of makes the audience feel small and worthless as though he has all the greatness and power.

This Poster was made just before they forced people to go to war and they are trying to persuade maybe the more middle class people who are more likely to not want to go rather than the working class who havnt got that much to live for so they'll probably join anyway.

'Daddy, what did YOU do in the great War?' The reason they put this is persuading emotionally to go so that you will come back and have stories to tell your kids. The little boy is playing with soldiers, the kind of soldiers who protect the Queen and this is done to glamourise the war saying you will be protecting the Queen, Not only the toys glamorise the war though, but the word 'Great'. The great war which is saying you will be victorious if you fight and its the war to end all wars.
