Task 4

For this task I chose to look at this provocative advert by Dolce & Gabbana advertising fragrance. This ad won the 2008 for most sexiest ad however, some would argue that its a little too much being 1 woman and 5 half naked men, one pinning the woman down. This shows 'noise' as people misinterpret the message and it can be seen as a glamourisation of rape. Or another communication failure could be that because there are more men then women then D&G could be saying that the male gender is higher in the hierarchy then women and therefore cannot be resistant which relates back to the male gaze.

If this advert was to be in a magazine, it would have to be next to something less glamerous like for example H&M which would make the buyer want to purchace something from D&G. On the other hand if this ad was next to a page advertising womens rights then people would feel guilty and would put them off buying anything from them. Similariliy if this ad was in a males magazine it would be portraid differently then if it was in a womans mag.
